When you arrive home, after an exhausting day of work, you always receives a very enthusiastic greeting from the person who is waiting for you with the most anxiety, who are we talking about? Of your pet, your dog.

Those who have dogs at home know what we are talking about. If you don’t have it, you will surely want to experience that feeling.

Having a pet is having good company at all times. A dog, unlike other animals, like the cat, is always willing to give love and receive it. In fact, the more you indulge him, the more he will demand your attention and express his gratitude in unimaginable ways.

However, having a pet also comes with great responsibility. It is not enough to simply provide water and food. It is important that you clean him, give him a comfortable place to sleep and that you train him to perform different tasks effectively. For example, relieve yourself.

This is the part that, in general, we dislike the most about having pets. But if they know where to do their tricks, this will make our job a little easier. It will be a little less unpleasant and we will save ourselves from getting angry if we find “gifts” on our furniture or carpets.

On the other hand, maybe you admire how other dogs fetch things or do tricks, do you want your dog to do the same? Today we will be telling you how you can train an English bulldog.

This puppy is an ideal companion for those who live in apartments or for singles. Its small size makes it easy to care for. Why don’t you dare to have one?

Every dog has the ability to learn, contrary to what many people think, it is not such a complicated task when you have the appropriate theory. Then you can put it into practice.

Instructions for training an English bulldog

The first thing to keep in mind is that the Bulldog, like all dogs, considers only one person as its only master and owner. Of course, this does not mean that he does not have affection for the rest of the family members. Rather, what he means is that this person is the one he will obey when given orders.

It is also important that before starting training, we keep in mind what the personality of our pet is. Bulldogs are very appreciated and sought after dogs, nowadays, to be children’s pets, due to their friendly, cheerful and reliable character.

However, it is well known that Bulldogs are characterized by being stubborn, rebellious and foolish. For this, its owner must show a strong character. Otherwise the training will not work.

In addition, if they do not socialize properly with other dogs or with other people, who are not in the family circle where they grow and develop, they can become very aggressive.  But don’t be scared. If you train them correctly, they can become excellent watchdogs. Protectors of the people they love.

On the other hand, training must be constant because they tend to easily disregard instructions even from their own master. If you have already started training, continue with the routine you have established so that he can adapt more quickly.

A fundamental part of training is the prize. If he does something right, you should reward him. For this you can use a treat that is of your choice and that is consistent with your diet. This will help him repeat the action when you give him the command. Just like a child, it is a reinforcing response.

If you want him to relieve himself outside the house, you should take him out to the same area after getting up, 10 minutes after eating, before his nap and before going to sleep so he can empty his bladder.

When he has relieved himself, take him away from the place. If you see that it is like looking for something inside your house or hanging around in the same place, it will be time to take it out, because it will be looking for where to do it.

If you see any grace inside the house, say “No” and take it outside. Don’t hit or yell at him.

Now, if you want him to walk on a leash, you should avoid pulling him to walk. You can trick him as if you were going to walk so that he starts walking and then you follow him. This practice must be pleasurable for him. For this reason you should give him more rewards than usual.

Invite him to walk by gently pulling the leash and always keep him on the left side.

What do you need to train an English bulldog?

The first thing you will need is a lot of patience. Remember that you are not giving orders to a person but to an animal. So you won’t learn at first. Perhaps more than once you will feel frustrated and wanting to throw in the towel but do not give up.

You will also need to be constant, which means being willing to invest your time. At least in the beginning, while you achieve your goals with your pet.

You must stick to a routine since this will be the one that tells your dog what he has to do on a daily basis, specifically talking about his needs outside the home.

It is important that you have a good amount of prizes or rewards available. That’s why, before starting the training, make sure you don’t miss them. If necessary, you can buy a cage to make the training stricter.

Another thing that, for nothing in the world, can be missing in the house of those who have pets, specifically dogs, are toys. He tries to buy him some so that he can bite into them.

These toys should vary depending on the stage your Bulldog is in. If we are talking about a puppy, it should not be so hard because it could damage its teeth when playing with it. Try to make it soft but not to the point that it breaks easily.

As he grows, you can change his toys for harder and more resistant ones. This will prevent him from taking the initiative and looking for toys from among your personal things.

Buy him more than one. Perhaps the one you have chosen for him is not his preference.  Give him the opportunity to choose and things will go much better at home.

If you want to teach your English bulldog to walk on a leash, you will need a light weight collar as well as a leash.

Both the collar and the leash must have special characteristics. For example, in the case of the collar, it should not be too tight so that the puppy feels suffocated.

It should be long enough for it to slide around and leave room for growth. But no more than 15 centimeters in relation to the circumference of your neck.

This training should start as soon as possible but with short sessions. You can invest about 5 or 10 minutes daily. This is usually more productive than spending half an hour or more.

With these short sessions, the puppy will soon get used to walking. You just have to be consistent in his training, be patient and show him a lot of love. Following these guidelines, in a short time you will begin to see the results and it will be a real pleasure to walk it.

Tips for training an English bulldog

Although it seems like an impossible task, training a dog is possible. In view of the special characteristics of the English Bulldog, namely his predisposition to obesity, you should avoid giving him too many “treats”, as this will add calories to his diet.

Don’t yell at your pet unless you catch him red-handed doing something you’ve already instructed him not to do, such as urinating or defecating inside the house. In this case, after scolding him, you should take him outside and show him where he needs to relieve himself. You may have to do this more than once, but don’t be discouraged.

Since they have a tendency to bite and chew on things, it is good that they have toys that they can chew on. This way you will avoid headaches when finding torn things or chewed shoes.

If you are going to take him for a walk, you should let him know that he is the pet, not you. Therefore, take it at your own pace. Don’t let him be the one to take you. He allows him to explore a little but you are the one who will determine the time he does it.

If you see that he does not want to walk, you can give him brief gentle tugs to make him move but never with too much force or abruptness. You may have to do this more than once because, by nature, they tend to get distracted by anything.

Avoid by all means, the tendency to drag it. With that you will not achieve more than being completely exhausted and moody. Also, you can hurt him and that is not the purpose either.

It is also important that he learn to socialize with other dogs, with other animals, especially if you have them at home with him, and with people. Otherwise he will be very aggressive and these hikes will be real hell for you.

Although it is true that the English bulldog is one of the most difficult dogs to train, it does not mean that it is impossible. Stay positive and focus on the task at hand.

Remember that a sense of humor plays a very important role in training. Laugh to let the frustration and anger drain. Also, create fun situations so the puppy can learn quickly.

Keep in mind that every beginning is painful and that if we, who are rational human beings, find it difficult to learn to do certain things, it is even more difficult for them.
