If you are a cat lover and you have one at home, it is likely that the least expected day you will have to deworm cats, an action that can be somewhat complex if you do not know what the cat has.

Although cats are domestic animals, that is, they are animals that do not usually leave the house much; this does not mean that they are animals that can catch some type of parasite, both on their skin and inside their body.

A parasite is a strange host, which feeds on another living being, parasitizing within it.  Parasites have no advantageous use for the cat, since let’s say they are only there to try to suck the life out of your cat and live off it.

Parasites are dangerous if they cannot be removed in time, therefore, deworming cats is a task that should be done every time this happens, something that will allow you to have your cat ready to play, run and be happy again.

This thing about parasites is one of those things that must be detected in time, because if this is not done in time, the parasites will take over the cat, making it a little more complicated to get rid of these annoying microscopic animals.

On the other hand, if we catch it in time, it will be relatively easy to eliminate parasites, something that will allow us to do it with hardly any problem. Cats are animals that although they have parasites, these are not usually as dangerous as in other animals such as dogs.

Today I am going to show you how you can deworm a cat correctly, to ensure that its health and quality of life is as high as possible and that it recovers as soon as possible from this condition.

Instructions for deworming cats

  1. Check the cat well: The first thing we must do to deworm a cat is to observe it well, that is, do a complete examination of it. We are going to do this to check what kind of parasites your cat has, which is the specific parasite and where it is housed. In addition, we are going to see the degree of progress that the parasite has and how we can eliminate it. If, for example, your cat has lice, we will be able to see how they jump through your cat’s fur and if your cat has a fungus on the skin, we will be able to see a mark in which the cat scratches a lot. We must examine the cat very well, without limiting ourselves to doing it in the superficial parts, but what we have to do is a complete examination, as if we were a veterinarian.
  2. Take the cat to the vet: Once we have detected any strange parasite in our cat, we must proceed to take the cat to the vet, with the aim of finding out what type of treatment we should follow to leave the cat completely free of parasites of all kinds. The veterinarian will do an exam similar to the one you have done, however, he will also do a more complete check-up and with a good diagnosis, which will allow you to know exactly what type of ailment our cat has, what type of parasite it has and what we must do to end it quickly, easily and effectively. As I said before, it is necessary to take the cat quickly to the vet as soon as we have detected something, since the sooner we do it, the sooner we will be able to cure it and with greater ease.
  3. Pay attention to the veterinarian: Once we know exactly what our cat has, it is time to do what the veterinarian has told us and put into practice the treatment that he has taught us. We will do this to cure the cat once and for all, since the treatments that the veterinarian has given you are designed to eliminate the parasite as soon as possible. For example, if your cat has been found to have lice, it is likely that they will prescribe some type of special shampoo that will allow you to eliminate them. He may also have given you some instruction on how to brush your cat or given you a worm collar to ward off infection.
  4. Hygiene: One of the easiest ways to eliminate a parasite is to ensure that your cat has acceptable hygiene. That “parasites” go to clean hair is an excuse invented by someone who did not want to wash their hair and who did not want to be called dirty, however, parasites really live better in places full of filth. For this reason, what we must do is always keep our cat clean, something that will not only eliminate parasites, but also make it less likely to catch them.
