Deworming dogs is something that we are all going to have to do at some point in our lives that is if you are a dog lover like me and you let them play and run freely in places where there may be parasites.
Parasites are, let’s say, infectious microorganisms that sneak into our dog’s body with the sole purpose of “annoying” it. Jokes aside, parasites can only perform their vital life functions if they depend on another animal, which they try to steal energy from and live on.
A good example of a parasite is fleas, small animals that bite and sting the dog to survive. Other parasites also appear in dogs, such as lice, ticks and fungi.
When a dog has a parasite, try to deworm dogs as soon as possible. As with other living beings like us humans, the sooner we catch a parasite, the sooner we will be able to kill it.
Think, for example, of that time you had head lice as a child. If you caught them in time, you could easily take them all down, but if you didn’t, they might multiply too quickly, infecting the entire class or summer camp in the process.
The same thing happens in dogs. The bad thing about not being able to deworm dogs in time is that the parasites are quite unpleasant for both the dog and the owner. No one likes having fleas in the house or having their dog in pain because of a tick.
For this reason, today we are going to deal with everything about parasites in dogs, so that you can easily eliminate them and learn how to deworm dogs. In order to do this correctly, I am going to teach you everything you need to know about deworming dogs and all the instructions you must follow to get rid of these annoying critters.
Instructions for deworming dogs
- Detect the causes: The first thing we are going to do when deworming a dog is to detect what has caused it to have parasites. This is done for two reasons that are quite clear to see. In the first place, we are going to be able to cut the source of the infection at the root, since if we realize that we have a nest of fleas or a tree with ticks in the garden, we will be able to eliminate it very easily. In addition to this, we will be able to learn from mistakes and make sure that the dog does not get infected again. To be able to do this, you have to observe your dog well, watching where he goes, what he does, where he enters and where he leaves. Once you know what he does, visit the places where he goes and look for parasites, in order to find the source of infection.
- Hygiene: As I said in another article similar to this one, but with cats, parasites do not go to clean hair, but rather they like dirt much more. Keep in mind that people who wash often hardly have lice, which go to children who do not shower very often. If your dog has fleas, what you have to do is bathe him more often, in order to eliminate them correctly. If your dog has ticks, keep the wound clean to prevent infection. In addition, this works very, very well as a preventive measure to prevent parasites from entering, since if your dog’s hair is clean, the parasites will not come to it and if they do, we can easily eliminate them so that they do not stay length weather.
- Eliminate the parasite according to the occasion: Once we have detected the parasite in question, it is time to eliminate it completely, something that will allow us to greatly improve the health of our dog. For example, if it is a tick, we are going to try to eliminate it using a slightly burned tweezers, so that it dies. We will also add a little vinegar to finish it off and prevent it from sticking again. For fleas, it is best to use a special anti-flea dog shampoo, which is sold at veterinarians. In addition, you have to brush the hair with special brushes to remove the animal’s nits, that is, the eggs that fleas lay to have children and continue parasitizing your dog.
- Protection: The best measure I know to prevent parasites from entering a dog is a flea collar, a special collar that is also sold at any veterinarian. This kind of collars have a special smell, which is a little unpleasant for humans, but very unpleasant for parasites. The smell is somewhat reminiscent of mothballs. If your dog wears this kind of collar, you will ensure that parasites stay further away from your animal than if you do not wear it.
