Cats are animals that are normally independent, peaceful and antisocial, which is why they do not usually represent much danger. However, sometimes it is necessary to scare them away from a specific place.

As these felines are animals with a great escapist tendency, it is very common for there to be a large number of stray cats in most of the country’s municipalities. Stray cats are quite dirty and some may be sick, so it’s best to keep them away from your property.

On the other hand, these animals usually eat rodents such as guinea pigs, mice, rats… There are people who have rodents as pets, which are in danger in the presence of these felines.

In addition, many times in houses with gardens, the presence of these felines could cause dirt problems in them, since cats can make depositions in them, causing the garden to be spoiled and having to be cleaned.

It really isn’t complicated to chase away these animals; you just have to follow the advice that I am going to present in this article. If you follow them, I guarantee that you will be able to scare cats away from your home forever, all without harming your health, because first and foremost, we are lovers of life and animals.

Instructions for repelling cats

  1. Determine the cause of why you attract cats: If cats come to your house, garden or simply follow you, it is usually because there is something attractive to them in you or in your home. Learning what attracts them is essential, since this way you can avoid doing it and you will drive cats away almost automatically. Among the most common reasons, we have the following.
    1. Food that they like: If there are usually leftovers near your house that cats like, it is normal for them to eat. Fishbones, leftover food from your particular cat or some other food is the most common.
    2. Smells: Cats, like dogs, are territorial, many times if other stray cats have urinated near your house, it will attract other cats to mark the territory. The solution is to try to remove the smell with bleach or air freshener.
    3. Reproduction: If you have a cat in heat in your house, it is very likely that when it is the breeding season, her pheromones will attract cats. The solution could be a temporary move while the heat lasts or use some type of scent that repels cats.
  2. Rosemary: Rosemary is a plant with a very strong smell, a smell that we use to cook, however, cats are quite bothered by it and therefore they hate it. The rosemary solution is easy, it is to place some rosemary leaves in the area where cats usually go, since in this way, we will be able to scare them away because they will not like that smell too much. If you want it to be more powerful, add black pepper to the mix. It can also be done with other plants with a strong smell, such as paprika.
  3. Food elsewhere: Stray cats go for food, so if you change where you put your food scraps, cats will go for it too. Throw the garbage in a container further away from your house and the cats will no longer go to eat in the container in your house, but in the other container. Among the most common foods for cats, we have fish bones, tuna, red meat, rabbit and others.
  4. Water: Cats hate baths and therefore water, so it’s a good idea to grab a hose or sprinkler system and get cats wet when they show up in your home. Of course, put the soft hose so as not to harm the health of the cats. Since they hate water so much, they will not dare to set foot in your house again because they will associate your home with water and will not want to return.
  5. Acid Spray: Cats are the same as dogs in some things, one of the best known being the disgust they have for everything that is acid. Mix a little lemon, a little water and a little vinegar in a container and sprinkle it where you do not want these animals to eat.  This will prevent them from coming back to where you sprayed it because the acidic smell will bother them quite a bit.

Tips for repelling cats

  • Do all the remedies at the same time: As I said in the article to drive away dogs, I will repeat that the best way to ensure the effectiveness of these remedies is to apply them all at the same time. Spray the area with the acidic juice, put rosemary leaves, a little black pepper, put food in another place (in that place where there is no food), keep your cat away from there and wet the cats with the hose if approach. All of this cannot fail.
