Cats are very beautiful animals and loved by all, however, sometimes cat repellent is necessary since sometimes a cat could damage your property.

Due to their high birth rate and their ability to escape from anywhere, there is a large population of stray cats in our country. Stray cats are cats that live on the street and feed on anything in order to survive. This implies that if, for example, we have a house with a garden in which we have planted fruits and vegetables, stray cats may sneak into our garden and spoil our harvest, in which case the use of a cat repellent is justified, since that no matter how much wall you put up, the cats are going to get over it.

It will also happen that cats spoil our new garden, since they may start digging in it or relieve themselves on our newly planted lawn.

The bad thing about cat repellent is that some of them are usually poisonous and toxic to animals. As in doncomos.com we are animal lovers, we like that they are always healthy and happy and therefore, we always try to use the least harmful means for them.

The problem with this is that it is difficult to find natural methods that manage to scare cats away and at the same time, make sure that their health does not suffer any type of damage.

But you don’t have to worry about anything, I’m going to offer you some home remedies to make a completely natural cat repellent, thus managing to scare away cats forever from your garden without damaging the health of these friendly animals.

What do you need to make cat repellent?

  • Some coffee beans.
  • Some cotton.
  • Lemon, lavender and orange.
  • A spray nozzle.
  • Rosemary infusion.

Instructions for making cat repellent

  1. Coffee beans: The smell of coffee is a smell that we humans like very much, because it is a strong smell and with a lot of character to which we are very accustomed.  However, for some unknown reason so far, cats do not like the smell of coffee, even detesting it. Coffee doesn’t hurt cats, but it will make them shy away from coffee grounds, which is exactly what we want. The way to use coffee beans to prevent cats from entering our garden is to sprinkle coffee beans in the areas where they used to be, such as the garden, garbage or orchard. The smell of coffee will keep all the cats out of your house.
  2. Wet cotton with lemon and orange: Lemon and orange are perfect citrus fruits for human consumption; however, this is not the case in cats, since they do not like citric acid too much. As cats are not stupid, they will stay away from lemon and orange odors for the simple reason that they want to stay away from the associated odors that can harm them. Take some cotton, wet it with some lemon and orange and put those cotton balls in the areas where you don’t want cats to be. Also put some on the wall of your garden, where they used to enter, since that way they won’t even try to get in there.
  3. Lavender oil: Lavender is an aromatic plant with a fairly strong smell. This smell seems quite pleasant to humans, however, this does not happen the same with animals such as cats, since they cannot stand these strong odors. The way to do this is to take some lavender oil and spray it on your crops, thus preventing cats from stealing your hard-earned crops. Once they leave there, we have the option of putting lavender branches near the wall of our house, to achieve a continuous smell and make the cats stay away from there forever as long as it continues to smell of lavender.
  4. Rosemary infusion: Rosemary is a very good infusion for health and with a very characteristic smell, a smell that, how could it be otherwise at this point, cats do not like too much. The best way I know of to use rosemary to scare away cats is to make a boiled rosemary tea, so that the rosemary releases even more scent and is much stronger for the cats in the neighborhood, which will stay away from the area where you don’t want them to be. Also put some rosemary leaves on the wall, similar to what you did with the lavender, to prevent stray cats from climbing the wall.
