How to Protect Endangered Animals

Protecting endangered animals is one of the most altruistic and rewarding tasks a human person could undertake, since most good people are also animal lovers.

Protecting animals in danger of extinction has become almost an obligation in recent times, since although we have progressed a lot socially and technologically, we have also taken a small step backwards in terms of protecting the environment and its inhabitants.

Due to increased pollution, deforestation, poaching, excess demand for meat, invasion of natural habitats by other species and climate change among others, there are more and more animals in danger of extinction, which if not If you are careful, they could disappear forever.

The polar bear, some types of whale, the Iberian lynx… these animals are the most famous animals in danger of extinction but there are many more because of human beings. Fortunately, there are more and more agencies in charge of protecting these animals from extinction.

We can also contribute our little grain of sand, since with small gestures we can indirectly contribute to avoiding their extinction, let’s see what they are.

What do you need to protect endangered animals?

  • Some social awareness with animals.

Instructions to protect endangered animals

  1. Avoid contamination: One of the main causes of the extinction of animals is the contamination of the environment and the reason is very simple to explain. The environment is the main habitat of wild animals, which are uniquely adapted to live in a certain place. If you pollute the environment, you are causing the destruction of this ecosystem, therefore you are preventing the animal from living in its natural habitat and have to move to another, where they do not have as many chances to survive, which ends up causing their extinction. By polluting we are also favoring global warming, guilty of the melting of the poles (extinction of the polar bear) and changing the climate to which animals are accustomed. To avoid pollution, make sure you recycle as much as possible, especially highly polluting products such as batteries and glass.  Also avoid throwing garbage in open places, use public transport or walk and pick up everything you dirty when you go to the mountain.
  2. Fight against poaching: We define poaching as all hunting that is carried out without a license and/or in places or periods where it is prohibited. It is also considered poaching when they hunt more animals than allowed. The way to fight against poaching is to report all the poachers you see hunting illegally, to do this go to the corresponding forest ranger and tell him about the situation, since when in doubt it is better to tell him so that he goes by there to check if the hunter is complying with the law. If you are a hunter, respect the hunting reserve, always hunt with a license and respect the limits of game to be hunted, since the reserves are not only there to get your money, but they are also there to avoid the extinction of the species .
  3. Be a volunteer: If you are interested in contributing more than a small grain of sand, you can collaborate with NGOs in charge of preventing the extinction of animals, for example WWF. If you don’t like NGOs too much, you can collaborate in other ways, for example by volunteering in small animal shelters, in shelters for abandoned animals or working in natural parks with spaces for protected species.

Tips to protect endangered animals

  • Beware of fires: One of the biggest problems in this country is forest fires, which can destroy the natural habitat of many endangered species in a matter of seconds. You can help fight fires in different ways.
    • Avoiding them: If you make a fire legally, always try to put it out completely, since in likes of wind they can complicate the fires and cause the mountain to burn. Also avoid throwing glass and other products that burn easily or create a mirror effect with the sun.
    • Warning: Whenever you see a burning, call 112 to report it. In summer the fire watchers are watching the mountain to prevent it from burning, however in winter we do not work in many autonomous communities, therefore it is more difficult to detect by the mountain rangers.
    • Collaborating: You can work in forest fires in a simple way, just look for the fire job bank on the website of your autonomous community, having crew positions, watchman, driver, firefighter. You will have to take some exams but if you pass you will get your interim position, as I and my whole family did.
