Ticks are external parasites that we can find in different animals; they are classified as mites and are animals very close to spiders; They feed on blood and for this reason they adhere strongly to the animal, since they are sucking its blood and will not stop until they are satisfied, which can even take several days. We will see how to remove ticks from the dog in a simple way.

We must pay attention to ticks since they attack livestock and our pets and above all because they are transmitters of diseases and can even cause death to the animal. It is important if your dog gets infected, that you remove them as soon as possible, not allowing them to proliferate. They can also cause illness in people.

Dogs can get infected very easily, with the contact of other pets or also in the same environment in gardens and parks.

Ticks can even cause paralysis in your dog , as their saliva has toxic effects; In addition, as a consequence of the blood that it will lose, it will give it anemia and it will feel very weak, this in the best of cases, because your canine could contract Lyme disease or  Piroplasmosis, which would cause its end.

Actually, the best remedy is prevention and preventing you and your dog from going through this unpleasant situation, and the remedies may not be 100% effective.

What do you need to remove ticks from the dog in a simple way?

  • Chamomile flowers
  • A glass of water
  • A piece of cotton
  • Lemon
  • Sprayer
  • Apple vinegar
  • Vaseline
  • Tea tree oil

Instructions to remove ticks from the dog in a simple way

  1. Tweezers: manually remove them with tweezers; your dog should be calm, then look all over his body to see if you find ticks, start from the top and go to the bottom, especially on the chest, belly, tail and ears. Put on some gloves and start removing ticks from your canine’s skin. It will be more effective if you heat the tips of the tweezers but you must be careful not to burn your pet. Ticks should be removed gently as if done roughly they can split in two and the mouth will be stuck to the dog, which could lead to an infection. Then apply something to disinfect, you can do it with iodine.
  2. Chamomile: in a liter of water add a handful of chamomile leaves and bring to a boil, lower the heat and leave it to rest for 20 minutes, take the cotton and impregnate it with the chamomile preparation, remove the excess water and begin to apply all the skin of your dog, especially in the areas preferred by ticks that are the neck, head, legs and ears, this is because they are the warmest parts. Ticks do not like the smell of chamomile. As it is something natural, you can do this to your pet every 15 days.
  3. Apple cider vinegar: among its compounds, vinegar has acetic acid, something that is hated by ticks. Take a cup of vinegar and a cup of water and mix them well, take a cotton ball and impregnate it with the mixture, wring it out to remove excess moisture and begin to pass it all over your dog’s skin.
  4. Lemon: prepare a repellent with this citrus fruit; cut two lemons and put them to boil in half a liter of water, let stand for at least an hour, pour it into the sprayer and pour it everywhere on your dog, being very careful not to get it in his eyes. Also apply in different corners of your house.
  5. Vaseline: take the Vaseline and pour it on the palms of your hands, rub them together and then pass them all over your dog’s skin, the idea is that this product drowns the ticks, then pass a comb.
  6. Tea tree oil: take a spray bottle, fill it with water and add a few drops of this oil.
Then apply all over your pet’s skin. Be careful with this remedy since applying it directly could cause irritation. You can also put a few drops in your shampoo as prevention.
