Scalar Fish – Care, Compatibility and Reproduction

• Complement their diet with tubbier worms, always taking care of their origin so that they do not get sick.

• Place ferns, striking green plants that are easy to grow, such as the Ampulla.
• Place rocks or gravel on the aquarium seat to protect the small fish you want to incorporate into your tank.
• Always keep them at normal temperatures that give you a feeling of being in their environment.
• The body of the scalar fish can become very large despite being flattened.
• It is a clearly omnivorous fish, being able to combine its diet with live and artificial foods.
• Have them in a very ornate aquarium, but without anything that is sharp that will not harm your scalar fish.
• They usually form couples that last a long time, which provides them with some marital stability. They are monogamous.

Scalar fish are represented by a species called Angel, which have been removed from their natural habitat to be distributed to lovers of this fish, which needs the water temperature according to its natural habitat to survive.

They need special care due to the place they come from, so an advantage to be able to have them as pets in our homes has to do with the place or fish tank where they are going to be placed, so that they can survive without problems.

And it is that you need to prepare with a sufficient margin of time so that your Angelfish can feel both comfortable, relaxed and within its environment, so it will be necessary to look for some of the plants and fish with which it can live.

Instructions to have an Angel or Scalar fish

1. Scalar fish are very friendly, so they easily adapt to other fish of different species as long as they are not smaller, which they can confuse with food and end up devouring them.
2. They usually live in small groups so they are very familiar, so you can incorporate other species little by little so that they do not become aggressive or want to manage the environment individually, taking over the fish tank.
3. It is important to keep the aquarium in good condition, clean and at the ideal temperature for Climbing, so you must have the tank equipped with special plants and stones as well as providing food with the necessary nutrients for its survival.
4. Among the fish that have a certain degree of compatibility to coexist with scalars, you can find the Neon Tetra, placing it when the scalars are more or less large so that they are not mistaken for food.
5. Another one that can live together with the scalars is the Cardinal Tetra, taking its name from the birds of this species due to its red color, with an electric blue stripe, being a fish of a size that can range between 4.5 or 5 centimeters in length.
6. The corridor is another of the species that you can incorporate into the habitat of your scalars, forming part of a large family, which can even reproduce without disturbing each other, so it would be advantageous to have an aquarium with these fish.
7. To have scalars living normally, comfortably and calmly in an aquarium, you should take into account having one specimen for every 10 gallons, so if you have 3 you should place them in a 30-gallon fish tank.
8. It is necessary to change the water sporadically at least once a week, or change a percentage of the water to maintain the health of these fish in optimal conditions and thus prolong their life a little longer.
9. The scalars can have a normal reproduction after 7 months of life, those if the temperature of the water also with the quality, since if they do not feel compatibility with the environment, it may be that you do not achieve a litter of fry.
10. When you see a couple swimming together and approaching at all times as if it were a courtship, you are facing a male and a female, who will defend their territory in the place they have chosen to lay their eggs.
11. Angelfish eggs generally hatch after 2 or 3 days and have the opportunity to be constantly watched by both parents, although when you see them a little larger you should remove the parents so they don’t eat them, which usually happens.

Tips

• Take into account that the aquarium is high, more or less between 45-50 cm high, since the fins of these fish can be very long.
• For better understanding, if the fish tank occupies a large space and is large enough, you can have this type of fish in your home.
• The water temperature should be more or less 25º centigrade, since they need to adapt to the same degrees of their natural habitat.
• If they are small when you get them, they might get used to the temperature you put them in, no need for a heater.
• Do not try to place bubbles or filters that make the water move, since scalars like tranquility.
• You should wash the filters of the fish tank at least every 2 months to keep them clean and impeccable always.
• Do not put fish that are more aggressive than this one in your aquarium, you must keep your fish tank balanced.
• They can be stressed by noises, strong lights and any sudden movement, so you should avoid having them near a bright or noisy place.
• Try to keep their water clean always so they last a long time.
