There are different types depending on the habitat or the environment in which they have had to live:
WILD DUCKS:
On the one hand, there are the free-roaming ducks that many classify as “wild”, but which nonetheless have the advantage of not being locked up and have the possibility of moving freely, counting on freedom, choosing at all times. What they want to eat and what their body is prepared for. Despite the fact that sometimes they meet people, who give them food that is not convenient for them, but that by popular belief they consider that they like it, because they eat it without any problem, then every time they go to places where they live, in a way repeat offender and erroneous return to throw the same junk food.
In North America and in some large places in Europe, it is there where they usually move as they try to move to places where they already have localized areas where heat prevails, because they do not like the cold and flee from it. Specifically, if you give them a choice, they prefer places where there is some humidity. Not to mention that they are water animals and need a habitat that contains it to be able to develop their lives in them, finding comfort and enjoying the environment.
They love insects and they also need their properties for their body, since they have numerous vitamins in addition to some nutrients. They can ingest all types; they do not put any above, depending on the type they are in the area where they are. This means that they adapt to the food they have at all times.
One of the foods that, due to their status as omnivores, they need to eat is algae, these are relatively easy to find, since they are usually at the bottom of ponds and of course the famous swamps. Some of these are usually located on the outskirts of soccer fields, even in the richest areas such as golf courses.
Another food is plants, which are available where they live, they also eat different vegetables. Therefore, if someone lived in a place where there was a pond or a swamp nearby and knew the existence of these birds in them, they could directly feed them vegetable products that they grow, since they like them, from those that have leaves like those that don’t.
A fact that should be highlighted is that eating pebbles is very good for them, strange as it may seem, since in their beak they lack teeth to chew food, so eating pebbles is not a problem but rather an advantage, since it helps them to carry out its digestion better, because those pebbles remain in one place in its stomach and collaborate in the task of digesting and grinding everything that is inside it.
DOMESTIC DUCKS:
Feeding a wild bird is not the same as feeding a domestic bird by the people in charge of it. Well, people on the street let themselves be guided by habits that the rest of the people do, but they do not have an accurate knowledge of whether the food they are being given is really beneficial for them. That is why before adopting this kind of animal in home, certain things must be available so that it can lead a normal life and a diet according to its omnivore metabolism.
Many times the ducks ingest waste that they find, such as chewing gum, bottle caps, can rings, material objects that are very bad for their body and that can damage it, even leading to death.
That is why having them at home is also a way to protect them and keep them under surveillance, and it is a very positive aspect.
The most recommended foods are, for example, those that contain carbohydrates, as well as cereals such as oats, corn, even rice grains, all of which provide good nutrition and can be found in any establishment or supermarket. Others such as peanuts or even soybeans, these can be mixed with other components and the feed they need is obtained, since they are provided with vegetable-type proteins. Most types of seeds, such as cotton or sunflower, help you digest, as they have beneficial fats. And, finally, it is good to know that when they are born, they eat from the shell, because there are substances and nutrients that they need to develop their abilities, such as seeing or walking, therefore, it is recommended to add to their feed, crushed bones, eggshells, as they have many minerals that they need to ingest. Above all, it is important to vary what they are fed so that they do not get bored.
