Ticks are those undesirable insects that live in trees, bushes and other plants, they hang down at any time on animals and even on people and bite, but the worst thing is that not everything remains in the bite but rather it sticks its head under the skin and feeds on blood. It is there when we discover them in animals because they swell and become visible.

They are mites with an oval body that measure about 6mm in length, they have 4 pairs of legs that end in two nails that they use to cling to their victims and suck their blood.  These parasites when they stick to people look for moist places such as the head, hidden in the hair, the armpits or the groin.

Ticks can cause health problems. In some cases they bring diseases that can be dangerous.

The most common and what worries us the most is when we see ticks on our pets. We remove them, we kill them but we must not forget to disinfect the house since these unpleasant bugs can live there for a long time hidden between the furniture and walls.

We want to teach you how to kill ticks and give you tip to prevent them and keep them away from home.

What do you need to kill ticks?

  • Tweeters
  • Cotton, alcohol
  • Jar
  • Infusion of chamomile, lemon or wine or apple vinegar
  • Creole
  • Chlorine

Instructions for killing ticks

  1. If you see that a tick has bitten you and it is attached to your skin, you should proceed to remove it as follows:
  2. Take some tweezers and try to extract it by taking it from the mouth, from the head, never from the body because if you take it out from there it can be cut and the head or part of it can remain under the skin. She places the tick in a closed jar to analyze it in case it carries any of the diseases that she usually transmits. Wash your hands well with soap as well as the wound that was left. If it is in a difficult area to extract it yourself, ask for help because you must do it well.
  3. You should consult a doctor if you see that part of the tick has remained on the skin, if you have symptoms such as fever, numbness in the area, headache or a feeling of paralysis in the body.
  4. People who work in the fields are exposed to this type of bite, so one way to prevent it is to wear thick clothing and leave no place for ticks to come into contact with the skin. Thick, long pants tucked into socks, long-sleeved shirt tucked into pants, hat, and neckerchief. Light clothing allows you to see them better and thus prevent and remove or kill them before they can make contact with the skin. When you get home, take off all your clothes and go through them. You can spray it with some insect repellant before or after leaving. Check your skin, your hair and the areas where they usually stay. Ask for help if you can’t do it alone. If you are with children, check them carefully.
  5. Now we turn to animals. It is very common in our dogs and other pets that they have ticks and that we discover them when they are already swollen because they have fed on their blood. They can be located anywhere on the dog, but especially on the neck, on the face, even inside the ears, which makes extraction difficult and causes more discomfort to the dog.
  6. To remove them you must proceed as we explained before (for people), with tweezers taking them from the head so that it is not cut, it is left inside the skin.
  7. Once you remove them you must kill them. There are those who burn them wrapped in toilet paper, or in the microwave, the point is to be sure that the insect dies and does not leave offspring in the wound. After you’re sure it’s dead, throw it down the toilet.  Disinfect the dog’s wound very well, making sure that there are no traces of ticks or children.
  8. If you feel like burning it or killing it in the microwave because you will hear its explosion, you can resort to other methods such as drowning it, for this you can throw it directly into the toilet, even if you see it float for a while it will soon drown. You can also submerge it in a jar with alcohol or vinegar and it will surely die there. If you do this cover the container so that it does not climb and escape.
  9. To prevent the insertion of ticks in pets, very good products are available on the market. The pipettes are tubes that bring a repellent for ticks, which are placed once a month on the withers of the dog and give excellent results. They are not expensive and they are very effective. There are also very good anti-tick powders or powders.
  10. Logically there are home remedies to prevent these parasites. For example an infusion of chamomile. You must prepare it and wet the dog’s hair with it until you see that the ticks come off.
  11. Acids are repellents for ticks, you can boil water with a cut lemon, let cool and spray the dog, the smell will make them come off, in the same way as if you do it with water and wine or apple cider vinegar.
  12. It is also necessary to keep your house free of these insects, you can fumigate with  creole dissolved in water, wipe the floors and corners with a cloth. Of course, you must take good care of yourself because it is toxic, in the same way protect your pets by removing them from the place until it dries well and the smell is not felt. Never put creole on the pet because it is toxic and dangerous.
  13. You can also pass chlorine diluted in water, especially in those places where your dog usually lies down.

Tips to kill ticks

  • To remove the tick from your dog, it is convenient to first soak a cotton ball with alcohol and support it for a few minutes, this will make the tick loosen or loosen, facilitating the extraction.
  • Periodically check your pet to avoid finding ticks already swollen, check the inside of the ears well because these places are the most difficult to treat.
  • If you notice that your dog tilts his head, check his ears well.
